‘’Kottai Ameer Communal Harmony Award’’ is presented by the Hon’ble Chief Minister every year during the Republic Day Celebrations at Marina, Chennai,to a person belonging to Tamil Nadu for promoting communal harmony.
This award is given in commemoration of Thiru. Kottai Ameer who stood for the cause of Communal Harmony and was killed by muslim terrorists. Kottai Ammer Award is conferred on a person belonging to Tamil Nadu with outstanding works in communal harmony.The award carried a gold coated silver medal ,a citation and a Cash Award for Rs.25,000/-.
The proposals received from all the District Collectors, the Commissioner of Police, Chennai and the Inspector General of Police (Intelligence), Chennai with their recommendations will be placed before the Selection Committee for selection of a suitable candidate for the above award and the award is presented by the Hon’ble Chief Minister during the Republic Day celebrations at Marina on 26th January every year.
